Summer Camp applications are all handed in, the training staff will now work on completing the next phase and submit them into Regional office for selection. When selections are completed, individual's 'Offer of Participation' will be return to us ... the projected time frame is late March / early April. 

Tuesday Evenings will be our regular LHQ training.

Saturday, 9 Feb 2019 - Optimist AMS&NW District Meeting (8 Volunteers Needed)
  • Location : Executive Hotel Calgary (828 23 St NE, Calgary, AB T2E 8T4)
  • Time : 07:45 to 09:00 hours
  • Order of Dress : No. 1A (Full Dress with medals)
  • 3125 cadets are invited to provide the Color / Flag Party for this year's meeting held in Calgary. Interested cadets need to contact Capt Fong (no later than next Thursday, 24 Jan 2019). If 3125 RCACC can not provide enough cadets, which will be disappointing, the opportunity needs to be open to other corps so not to impact the event.  
  • This is an organization in both Canada & USA, and this meeting will have representation from both countries, 2 provinces and 1 state.

As we are half way into December, so is the training year 2018 -2019. On behalf of 3125 Calgary Highlanders RCACC, I wish all cadets and their family a wonder and safe holiday.

  • Order of Dress : Holiday Sweater (optional)

  • Cadets will have an evening of sports and/or movie. Once we have a count of how many people we have, the staff will place the order for pizza delivery. 
  • Cadets' family (parents and/or siblings) are invited, bring your favorite holiday treat to share is welcome.

What's happening with The Army Cadet League?
The Army Cadet League of Canada, Alberta Branch, Southern Zone is organizing a fundraiser.  They are compiling a cookbook for sale and would like all members, family and friends of members to participate by sending in recipes.   
Require recipes for the following categories:

  1.  Appetizers & Beverages
  2. Soups, Salads, & Sandwiches
  3. Vegetables & Side Dishes
  4. Main Meals
  5. Desserts
  6. Worldly Dishes – Ethnic
  7. MRE’s/Miscellaneous
The deadline for receipt of recipes is JANUARY 10, 2019.

The aim is at least 350 recipes.  Please put the name of the person whose recipe it is (eg. Grandma X, or your name) in the upper right corner, so that they may acknowledge your recipe.
The projected launch for this fundraiser is by April 15, 2019 and the cost of the cookbooks will be $20.00.

Good Evening,

THANK YOU to the parents who attended the Parents meeting last night, a lot of information was shared. It is HIGHLY important for at lease one parent / guardian of the cadet attend the meeting, as the parents committee is fundamental in the success of our cadet corps. 

What is happening in November 2018 :

Saturday, 10th Nov 2018 - Poppy Tagging 
  • Order of Dress : No. 1
  • Location :  Royal Canadian Legion #286 - #5 1107 33 St NE Calgary AB (adjacent to Army & Navy)
  • Timings : 0930 - 1600 hrs
  • Parent drivers are needed to transport cadets from the legion to different locations for poppy tagging.
  • Lunch will be provided

Sunday, 11th Nov 2018 - Remembrance Day
3125 RCACC will be once again divided to attend 2 services.

Those cadets who live in Calgary, will attend the service at #286 RCL (#5 1107 33 St NE Calgary AB)
  • Order of Dress : No. 1 / Business Formal
  • Timings : 1000 - 1200 hrs
  • Family and friends are welcome to attend the service, food donations are accepted on location. 
  • Refreshments, Entertainment, and Cash bar may be available after the service.
  • Attending Officers are Capt Fong & 2Lt Frizzell

Those cadets who live in Chestermere and area with attend the service at the Chestermere Cenotaph (Anniversary Park : 208 West Chestermere Drive).

  • Cadets will meet at the Chestermere Fire/RCMP station at 1000 hrs to join the RCMP, Fire, and Peace Officers in the march over to the cenotaph.

Our affiliated regiment, The Calgary Highlanders, had extend an invitation to each of the cadet corps to attend the Walcheren Parade (approx. 7-10 pers from each of the 4 CH Cadet Corps)

Date: Wednesday, 24 Oct 2018.  
Timings : Parade practice will commence approx 1900 hrs / Markers will be called on at 2030 hrs / Dismissal approx. 2130 hrs

Battlefield Tour 2020

Evening,
 
Thank you for everyone who join me at the Unit Support Group meeting this evening.
During the meeting, I gave a briefing on us joining our sister Calgary Highlanders Cadets Corps in Airdrie (3016 RCACC) on a Battlefield Tour in 2020 (April 9 - 19, 2020).

This trip of a lifetime for the cadets is approx 1.5 years away from departure date, and the first meeting is scheduled to be next Monday:
 
September 24, 2018 at the AG Building – 97 East Lake Ramp NE, Airdrie AB from 1900-2100 hrs in the Theatre Room.
 
This is a meeting for PARENTS ONLY at this time. I look forward to meeting all of you and starting this trip off with a great first meeting.

Recap:
Cadets must be an "active" member of the corps at the time of travel (April 2020)
Each traveler (both cadet and staff) will be responsible for individual's cost in full
Cadet is $3,683.00 / 
Officer (or Adult staff) is $4,093.00
Post fundraising, the monies raised (not including $10,000 held for contingency funds) will be divided equality among paid travelers.

WELCOME BACK!!

Hope everyone had an amazing summer and are already for another great training year.

What is happening in training for September 2018 :

Saturday, 8th Sept 2018 - Chestermere Country Fair
  • Order of Dress : 1A (Full Dress w/ medals)
  • Cadets are to meet at the Middle School NLT 0830 hours (128 W Lakeview Dr, Chestermere, AB)
  • Please have breakfast at home, bring water bottle if needed. 
  • Parents and family members can find a spot along Chestermere Drive to await for the parade to come by (leaving Middle School at 0930 hrs), parking available at the Recreation Centre.  
  • Cadets will be dismissed after the parade

Tuesday, 11th Sept 2018 - First Parade Night 
  • Parents/Guardians are asked to stay to complete Annual Validation.
  • Update of Detail Health / Medical Condition are REQUIRED

Why the change in Parade Night to TUESDAY?
  • Gaining approx 6 more training nights in a training year.
  • Allowing our cadets to join optional training / teams with other units that are often offered on Monday nights (i.e. Pipes & Drum, Drill, Marksmanship).
  • Increase attendance on training nights post FTX.

Wednesday, 12th Sept 2018 - Chestermere Fall Energizer (Volunteers needed)

What is happening with our Unit Support Group (USG): 
The Unit Support Group (USG), formally known as Parents Association Committee (PAC), is the biggest sponsor and support group of 3125 RCACC - Chestermere. When you enroll your son/daughter into the Cadets program, you also become a member of the corps USG and is encouraged to take part in it, sharing ideas and helping with different aspects to drive the success of our corps.
There are few events happening in the Fall, details to follow.

Saturday, 1st Sept 2018
  • The Regimental Pipes and Drums of the Calgary Highlanders are the duty band for this years Calgary Highland Games, they will also compete as a pipe band grade 3. Come out and enjoy highland tradition. Opening ceremonies at 1300.

Training Year Comes To An End

Good Evening,
As we wrap-up our training year and Stand Down for the summer, on behalf of the officers, staff, and Parents Committee of 3125 RCACC, "THANK YOU" for all the efforts and support you have given during this past year. 

Below are some information on summer training, summer events & opportunities, and key dates for the Fall when we will begin Training Year 2018-2019. 

Monday, 18 June 2018 (6:30pm) will be our last evening of cadets before we stand down for the summer. Cadets are to arrive in civilian clothing and assist the staff in storing away our office and supply area. For those cadets attending the various Cadet Training Centre (CTC), I encourage you to inspect your uniform and make requests of exchange if you require any. 
  • Do the "hug test". Give yourself a hug in your tunic, if it is too tight to do this comfortably ... You should get a larger tunic.
  • If you were to sit down, will your poker dots socks be visible for all to see? (Do not wear poker dots socks with your uniform)
  • Can you do up the top button of your shirt without being choked?

Parents are all invited to attend The Parents Committee AGM (18 June 2018). Topics of discussions will be bettering communication, reviewing Committee By-Laws, ideas for future fundraising, and upcoming casino event.

The 2018 Summer Training season is just around the corner, Regional Cadets Support Unit (RCSU) movements team will automatically arrange travel from/to the cadets' home city. If you have the slightest intention to drop off / pick up your cadet (this includes signing them in/out on weekends), the Parental Pick Up (PPU) form needs to be filled out prior as soon as possible. You may send this form directly to: "NorthwestTransport@forces.gc.ca" and Cc "3125Army@cadets.gc.ca" Last min decision may result in parents/guardians absorbing travel cost sustained by RCSU movements.

The Calgary Stampede has once again requested Cadet participation in the Parade this year. 120 Cadets (35 cadets from each elements and 15 Navy League Cadets) will act as Pacers. This is a 2 part event (see poster attached). If interested, please advise Capt Fong NLT Friday, 22 June 2018.
  • On Thursday 5 July 2018 there is a BBQ for all participants from 1700-2000 wherein final details/discussion will occur on how the parade will unfold, including Cadet duties as Pacers
  • On Friday 6 July 2018 breakfast will start at 0600, and Pacers need to be in place NLT 0715 hrs. The end timing for this activity is 1300 hrs.

Applications for the 2018 National Expedition are now open until 22 June 2018, please let Capt Fong know ASAP. This expedition will be conducted from the 20th of August to the 4th of September at Mount Columbia, Alberta. Activities will include mountain biking and mountaineering. 
There will be 4 cadets selected from Northwest.
Prerequisites:
  • Gold star qualified;
  • Minimum 16 years old by 20 Aug 18;
  • Must have completed gold star expeditions; 
  • Must have completed a regional expedition; 
  • Minimum silver fitness;
  • No medical limitations; 
  • Possesses an exemplary cadet service record;
  • Have consent from parents/guardians; and
  • Be recommended by the unit Commanding Officer.

Finally, one of our supporting Royal Canadian Legion, TVS Branch 52, is having their Casino Event on 27 & 28 Aug at Casino Calgary. 
They are seeking volunteers to help, if interested/able please contact Dawn Adam at bnlsforever@gmail.com

WHAT: On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, there will be a Breakfast for Youth here in Calgary which will feature Her Honour Lois Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and Lieutenant General Paul Wynnyk, Commander of the Canadian Army. The breakfast is in support of two organizations, the Calgary Scouts Chinook Foundation and Her Honour’s History and Heroes Foundation. Please see the attached flyer - the breakfast will be a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the 1918 armistice and launch Her Honour’s Spirit of Peace initiative.

WHO: For this event, the local cadets are being offered approximately 30 seats for cadets (10 per element) and 2 for staff (which have been paid for by donors to accommodate our cadets). The cadets will have an opportunity to hear the guest speakers (with remarks geared to youth), be apparat of the launch of the Spirt of Peace Contest and enjoy a free breakfast.

The organizer would be most appreciative to have some of your cadets attend this breakfast and have an opportunity to hear and meet Her Honour and General Wynnyk. There will be a mix of community members and members of the scouting community attending the breakfast and it is believed that this event would also benefit our cadets.

WHEN: 7:30 am – 9am
TRANSPORTATION: Parent Drop Off and Pick-up
DRESS: Summer Dress (no FTUs)

Annual Ceremonial Review

Evening,

The Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR) is a parade to celebrate the hard work and dedication of each cadet throughout the training year, a finale to showcase their achievements. The formal parade will be once again joint, bringing together the 4 Calgary Highlanders Cadet Corps (Calgary, Airdrie, High River, Chestermere).

SUNDAY JUNE 3rd – Calgary Highlanders Cadets Joint ACR

  • Cadets are to meet at Mewata Armoury (801 11 St SW in Calgary) at 07:30 hrs in civilian clothing, bring all uniform parts in a garment/garbage bag (labelled with "Name & Unit #"). 
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided to the cadets.
  •  The Joint ACR will begin at 15:00 hrs, guests are asked to be seated before 14:45. There will be refreshments after.
  • Cadets will be dismiss around 17:30 hrs  ​

The following Monday night will be our own awards night, annual awards will be presented to individual recognizing their achievements in different areas of the program.

  • Presentation of our annual awards, followed by a social gathering of cadets, parents and guests.

2018 Stampede Parade - Cadet and staff volunteers needed

Below is the information for the Stampede parade this July. Our goal is to send 130 cadets (all elements) to assist as pacers, which will provide the cadet program ongoing representation throughout the parade.

Good Day Folks,
 
The Calgary Stampede has once again requested Cadet participation in the Parade this year. This is an excellent opportunity for us to gain invaluable exposure for our program, on an international stage. We also received new recruits into the Cadet program from our participation last year. This year they are asking for 130 Cadet participants to act as Pacers. We are seeking 35 Cadets from each of the three elements, as well as 25 Navy League Cadets.
 
On Thursday 5 July 2018 there is a BBQ for all participants from 1700-2000 wherein final details/discussion will occur on how the parade will unfold, including Cadet duties as Pacers (see attached poster).
 
On Friday 6 July 2018 breakfast will start at 0600, and Pacers need to be in place NLT 0715 hrs. The end timing for this activity is 1300 hrs.
 
Unit CO’s - what we need from you: canvass your units and identify interested Cadets. Register your Cadets in Fortress under CalStampP18. We also require Officers and screened Adults to assist in supervision during the parade/along the parade route.
               
Diary Date for Unit CO’s to register participating Cadets in Fortress, and identify Officers and screened Adults who can assist with supervision to their Zn Trg O is NLT 0800 Monday 25 June 2018.

The 3125 Calgary Highlander Cadet Corps parades every week on Tuesdays night at 1830hrs to 2130hrs. Feel free to come down and speak with one of our staff.

Cadets is a zero cost youth program from teens aged 12-18 that welcomes both boys and girls! All that is needed to join is a valid birth certificate and health care card!
