First, I want to welcome you to the new cadet training year and hope that everyone had a great summer holiday, that your son(s)/daughter(s) had a good return to school. While we are approved to restart training, certain safety protocols, training modifications and guidelines have been directed by our Chain-of-Command; the staff at 3125 Calgary Highlanders (Chestermere) had been hard at work planning and getting things organized for the cadets to return. We will restart virtually at first and later transition back to limited in-person activities. We understand there will be cadets and/or parents who may be cautious and/or not be comfortable about returning to in-person interaction, THAT IS OK. Please let us know when the time comes and we can have a further conversation on alternative options. The Cadets and Staff's health and safety are our utmost priority, alongside with their development and success. The foundation to our corps' success are communication and collaboration, at every level of our partnerships. This includes cadets, parents/families, Officers, and volunteers, members of our Unit Support Group, Army Cadet League, City of Chestermere, and the Department of National Defence. *THANK YOU for everyone's efforts over the last 6 months* Here are a few things you can expect ... I want to thank you for your continued support of 3125 Calgary Highlanders (Chestermere) RCACC and we look forward to seeing everyone soon. If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know. Captain Ada Fong, CD Commanding Officer 3125 (Calgary Highlanders) RCACC The decades since the Battle of Vimy Ridge have slipped by, but the legacy of the Canadians who accomplished so much in that important First World War battle lives on. Some say that Canada came of age as a country on those harsh April days in 1917.
Cadets and JCRs have always played an important role in remembering this battle at cenotaphs across Canada, and at Vimy Ridge. In these unprecedented times we invite Cadets, JCRs, their families, staff, and volunteers to take part in a virtual moment of remembrance. To participate in this important act of remembrance we ask that on April 9th, at 8PM, in your local time zone you:
Although we are apart, we can come together and show our respect for this important battle that helped to shape our nation. The National Directive to CANCEL all cadet activities is extended to 30 April 2020. There are no other news on summer training.
3125 Training Staff will meet and organize online options moving forward. Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the Commanding Officer, Capt Ada Fong at ada.fong@cadets.gc.ca Dear Cadets, Parents, and Family
With the recently confirmed case(s) of COVID-19 in Alberta and the first related death in British Columbia, we understand that there will be increased concern and uncertainty about our own risk or steps to take. Cadets training will continue as normal, however, cadets or his/her family members who are experiencing any flu-like symptoms should stay home and notify their Section Commander(s) following standard normal procedure. We want to remember that there are the two cases in Alberta and we don't want to create any unnecessary angst. Understandably, this doesn’t lessen the concern we have for one another or the anxiety and stress we might feel about the potential spread of the virus, especially given the amount of media coverage COVID-19 receives. Please respect each other’s right to individual opinion and approach to the situation. Alberta Health Services continue to work collaboratively with partners across Alberta to ensure an efficient and coordinated response to any potential case of COVID-19 in Alberta and encourages all Albertans to follow routine infection prevention measures, for any illness. These include washing hands often with warm soap and water and staying home from activities if you are feeling unwell. If you are feeling unwell and are uncertain about your healthcare needs, please call Health Link – which is staffed by registered nurses and available 24/7 – by dialing 811 from any phone in Alberta. For additional information on COVID-19 and advice for the public, please visit the World Health Organization or Alberta Health Services sites. www.ahs.ca/covid. Please avoid adding to the already existing speculation as result of the increased media interest and chatter on different social media channels. If you have a question or concern in regards to cadets training, please email the officers directly 3125army@cadets.gc.ca or 3125calgaryhighlanders@gmail.com Thank you Captain Ada Fong,CD Commanding Officer 3125 Calgary Highlanders Cadet Corps Canadian Armed Forces ada.fong@cadets.gc.ca This contest celebrates the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe, also known as V-E Day. The Lt. Gov. has always been a strong supporter and advocate of the cadet programme and as such, Her Honour created a special category just for Cadets. This contest is open to all cadets in the Province of Alberta but would be of special interest to those Cadets who have visited the battlefields of Europe. For those wishing to participate in the contest, I recommend that the video be filmed in front of your Corps / Sqn in uniform and without wearing headdress. No special equipment is required to record the speeches as most modern cell phones are able to produce high quality video. Of course, this contest is completely optional but it is a great opportunity to showcase the skills that are learned and practiced through the programme not to mention the cash prizes for the winners! As the current Lt. Gov. term is winding down this year, it would be great to see a large number of cadet participants to show our appreciation for Her Honour's support over the years. See the website link for additional information and on the submitting the completed video (https://www.historyandheroes.ca/spirit-of-victory) Questions can be directed to the Commanding Officer, Captain Fong. ![]()
